SCARCE TO FIND HIGH CONDITION 9 MM BRAZILIAN MEKANIKA URU MACHINE GUN PARTS KIT.

Lot # 1165 (Sale Order: 32 of 324)

The Mekanika Uru machine gun is a very simple submachine gun which was produced and fielded in Brazil from 1977 to 1985. This is the "rifle" version with long barrel and wooden buttstock. Since they were in service all the way up until only a year before the Firearms Owner’s Protection Act cut off the ability to manufacture/remanufacture machine guns for private ownership in the United States, not many guns made their way here and were registered for private ownership. However, some kits, less the receiver, like this one, were imported. Hence, we offer here a near mint-in-the-box Uru machine gun parts kit with near excellent serviceable 9mm Parabellum 19” barrel intact. Buttstock, complete lower assembly with internals, bolt, mainspring, three original 30 round magazines, web carrying strap and cleaning brush, all in original factory cardboard box. CONDITION: Near mint in original box. Bore near excellent shiny and bright. Cannot improve much on the condition of these pieces. If you are one of the few with a registered Uru machine gun, and especially if you have the "pistol" version of this gun, these parts should be of particular interest to you. JWK 2024-05-146.

GORDON HERIGSTAD PRODUCED THOMPSON “VIOLA” CASE DESIGNED FOR THE ORIGINAL COLT AND MODEL

Lot # 1173 (Sale Order: 38 of 324)

Produced in 2009 by Gordon Herigstad, these cases were designed with the Thompson lover and enthusiast in mind. Primarily designed for the original Colt Thompsons, they will fit the 1921A, 1921AC, 1928 Navy, and also will the 1928A1. If your Thompson has a sling, it will still fit if you fold the sling under the compensator. This case will accommodate one each of a “C” drum and “L” drum as well as four stick mags of either 20 rounds or 30 rounds. There is also a small rectangle designed to accommodate a box of cartridges. There is a fabric cover included that will protect your gun from rubbing against the inside top of the case, and also can serve to protect your gun when you place it on a surface. According to Herigstad, if one wants to carry their M1 or M1A1 Thompson in this case, they need only lift out the divider board from the center, lay the fabric cover into the bottom, and then place the (non-compensator equipped) gun in place. Herigstad ordered a brass plate with a consecutive number starting at “41” to be affixed to each case. This is case number “45”. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Near mint throughout, with no evidence of a gun ever being placed into it, with some wrinkles in the formed top felt inside the lid. This may be the way all of these cases were formed. This is one of those items I have heard many Thompson collectors state, “I wish I had purchased one when they were available.” Well, these surface for sale VERY infrequently, and almost never separate from a gun. This is about as nice a specimen as one could ever hope to find. For the Thompson collector who appreciates quality as well as functionality. As one bystander at a range once said, “Surely your Thompson deserves the best possible case to transport it in.” JWK 2024-05-045

JOHN F. KENNEDY PRESENTATION TIFFANY CALENDAR COMMEMORATING THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS TO GENERAL EARL

Lot # 1175 (Sale Order: 40 of 324)

This small gift of appreciation was commissioned by President John F. Kennedy and presented by him to his closest advisors following the peaceful conclusion of the Cuban Missile Crisis. This is one of the rarest and most important presidential gifts. Kennedy designed, and had Tiffany & Company make, sterling silver October 1962 calendars to present to his inner circle of advisors. It is believed that JFK only presented 34 of these calendar paperweights to people in his strategic inner circle. The initials of the recipient were engraved on the upper left and Kennedy's initials were engraved on the upper right. Etched more deeply and boldly than the others are the 13 days of the crisis, October 16-28, when the world stood on the precipice of nuclear war, and the Kennedy administration pursued the path of peace. The president presented this calendar to General Earle G. Wheeler, Chief of Staff of the United States Army at the time. His initials, "E.G.W.", are engraved at the correct location on the upper left corner. The president's initials, "J.F.K.", are correctly engraved on the upper right. Marked "TIFFANY & CO STERLING." on the bottom right corner in small capital letters. There are scattered blemishes throughout with scratches to the calendar but all markings remain legible. Wood border exhibits light wear with the felt base exhibiting soiling, yet remaining intact. CONDITION: Very good.

This example number E705546 falls at the very end of World War I trench gun contract production, the generally accepted production block running from E613000 to E705000. In April 2004 Sigarms took in a large grouping of WWI 1897 trench guns on trade from the Richmond Police Department which, for the most part, had been in storage since WWII and remained in non-rebuilt built original WWI configuration. Richmond PD originally acquired the guns from the Virginia National Guard around 1924, who in turn received them from the Army about 1921. The treasure trove was purchased by Interstate Arms and later sold by Ivanhoe. Although this example is not included among the 74 guns on a list compiled March of 2005 by the owner of Interstate Arms (see Canfield "Complete Guide to United States Military Combat Shotguns" p. 286), it does fall between the last 2 numbers listed. Before the guns were transferred to Ivanhoe, a few were sold directly by Interstate Arms, presumably including this example. Finished in standard blue, this shotgun is fitted with a correct 20" cylinder choked barrel with heat shield. The 6 row perforated heat shield bears early "PAT. APPL. FOR" marking above the bayonet lug. Although of an earlier vintage than the gun, it is known that the Richmond PD swapped some of the heat shields after removing them for a brief stint of use in patrol cars. Solid frame without US markings, as is correct for non-rebuilt WWI trench guns. Buttstock is plain walnut with rear sling swivel and checkered composite WRACO butt plate. CONDITION: Very good overall. Gun retains the vast majority of its original factory applied finish with some areas drifting to brown patina including the top of the receiver. Scattered marks and moderate wear present throughout. Stocks retain their original surfaces with some scattered impressions and a few older splits at the wrist. Very good, bright and shiny bore. Smooth mechanics. An excellent WWI era time capsule trench gun. Barrel Length: 20" FFL Status: Curio & Relic Gauge: 12 GA Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1897 Paperwork: Factory Letter, Documentation Serial Number: E705546

(C) RUSSIAN CONTRACT COLT 1911 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL

Lot # 1189 (Sale Order: 48 of 324)

As per the included copy of a Colt letter, this pistol was shipped as part of a shipment of 2,500 on March 31st, 1916, directly to the Russian Government. These pistols were produced in 2 distinct variations, one as standard Government Models, and the other with special Cyrillic markings on the dust cover that translate to "English Make"; those marks typically appear on numbers above 50,000, and are not present on this gun. These rare guns were shipped into Murmansk and Archangel before distribution to Russian forces; beyond that little of their history is known, however, there is one account that a 1911 was used to kill the Romanovs. Standard configuration parts include half-moon front sight, U-notch rear sight, 2 line 2 block patent and address information on left side of slide, with uncircled Rampant Colt at the rear of the slide, right side with Colt caliber information. Frame with "GOVERNMENT MODEL", serial number, and small subinspections. Spurred checkered hammer, checkered slide release with milled relief area, checkered thin tab safety with milled area, long milled trigger, checkered magazine release, short 1911 grip safety, smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop, checkered walnut grip scales. 2-tone magazine. CONDITION: Overall very good, retaining the majority, approximately 60-70% of the Colt bluing, with silvering and handling marks throughout, concentrated to slide. Typical takedown mark and pings around slide release from improper installation. Appropriate distension around proofs from application of stamp. Straps have thinning and silvering throughout, consistent with the heavy use these pistols underwent. Grips appear to be period replacements. Mechanically fine, excepting occasional tendency to hammer follow, bore is excellent with strong rifling and some mild frosting. No import mark observed. This is a very good example of a very scarce pistol. Barrel Length: 5" Caliber/Bore: .45 ACP FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1911 Paperwork: Copy of Factory Letter Serial Number: C32898

(C) PUBLISHED JAPANESE TYPE 1 HAMADA SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL, ONE OF ONLY 27 KNOWN.

Lot # 1190 (Sale Order: 49 of 324)

Bunji Hamada's pistols are extremely scarce. Originally, Hamada worked in the Hamada Gun Shop, opened by his father in 1895, specializing in sporting arms, and was an active participant in the business; Hamada actually built the first domestically produced superposed Japanese shotgun in 1927, and was using it to bust clays as late as 1981. In 1941, the war effort made it impossible to source raw materials for anything other than military guns, and so Hamada was forced to turn from sporting arms to military production. His first design was in 7.65mm (.32 ACP) and approximately 4500-5000 of them were produced; only 27 have been found, and are all in a fairly narrow 700 gun serial number block. This example is listed by serial number on page 237 of "Japanese Military Cartridge Handguns 1893-1945" by Derby and Brown, as a Type VIII variation, manufactured 1943, no final approval stamp, 6 slide serrations, numbered on the rear grip strap, revised grip panels, no slide serial number recess, revised serial number dies, no slide identification or muzzle crown, and the revised Tokyo plant symbol and disassembly arrow. CONDITION: This is an exemplary example that still remains in original condition, retaining the majority of the fine bluing that Hamada developed as part of his sporting arm business. Most losses are to the slide and grip straps consistent with holster wear and carry, including losses at the cocking serrations commensurate with use. Grip straps are essentially patina with faded traces of bluing at the edges. Grips are very good with some handling marks. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with strong, softened rifling and mild frosting throughout. This is an extremely scarce pistol with excellent condition. Barrel Length: 3 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: .32 ACP FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Japan Model: Type 1 Hamada Serial Number: R2959

(C) OUTSTANDING, VERY SCARCE, ONE OF 17 JAPANESE TYPE 2 HAMADA SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL, PUBLISHED IN "

Lot # 1191 (Sale Order: 50 of 324)

A refinement of the Type I Hamada, the Type II's largest change was the change from .32 ACP to 8mm Nambu, but the grip angle and overall profile were also adjusted. The pistols were approved by the Ordnance Burearu in June of 1943, and production was slated to begin in an idle textile plant in Notobe, from where they were to be delivered to Toriimatsu while "in the white". Approximately 1,500 of the guns were completed, and 4,000 incomplete guns were in production, but only 500 were processed by Toriimatsu. Of the 17 known pistols, all are in-the-white, indicating that they never reached Toriimatsu; it is possible that the completed guns were sent to mainland China, as there are known photos of Mantsu Railway guards with what appears to be these pistols, but nobody is truly sure. See "Japanese Military Cartridge Handguns 1893-1945" by Derby and Brown, Chapter 9, for an in-depth discussion of these guns, including listing this gun on pg. 247: it is the third lowest number known, with only 2 and 6 lower. This example, serial number 10, is in the white, with a correctly blued magazine latch leaf spring. Matching "10" serial numbers observed on lightening cut out on top of slide, right side of frame, and back of magazine. Left side of slide marked with Notobe cruciform stamp and "Ni Shiki" for "Type 2". The extractor is in-the-white, instead of blued, but appears to have been in place for some time and is possibly original. CONDITION: Overall very good to excellent, particularly when considering the scarcity. The pistol appears to have gotten some oxidation at some point, and has been cleaned (which may explain the lack of bluing on the extractor) with some mossing and polish marks throughout, heaviest spot on the right side of the muzzle. Stocks are very good with some handling mars and abraded heads, right scale has a strike across the center. Mechanically fine, bore has strong visible rifling and mild frosting throughout. This, and the preceding Type I, represent a very rare opportunity in the landscape of Japanese handgun collecting. Barrel Length: 3 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: 8mm Nambu FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Japan Model: Type 2 Hamada Serial Number: 10
