TNW Firearms Model HB M2 Belt Fed Firearm in .50 BMG with Case

Lot # 1401 (Sale Order: 402 of 674)

Desirable TNW Firearms Model HB M2 Belt Fed Semi-Automatic Firearm in .50 BMG with Case and Accessories

Manufactured as a semi-automatic copy of the venerable U.S. Browning M2 "Ma Deuce" .50 caliber heavy machine gun, with a TNW Firearms semi-automatic side plate along with surplus Israeli and U.S. components. One of the most well known firearm designs from the legendary John Moses Browning, the precursor to M2 was developed after World War I as an enlarged adaptation of Browning's Model 1917/1919 belt fed design. Chambered for the powerful .50 BMG (12.7x99 mm NATO) cartridge, which was itself based in part off of the Imperial German 13.2x92 mm SR Mauser cartridge, it was intended to deal with armored vehicles and aircraft that emerged by the end of World War I. Finished after Browning's death and adopted in 1933, The M2 and its sub-variants proved to be some of the most prevalent and versatile heavy machine guns in the world, being utilized in a wide range of roles from infantry support, vehicle mounts, ship defense, and even as the main armament of aircraft, by the United States and her allies from World War II onward. Though its use on aircraft has largely been surpassed, the M2 and its sub variants are still extensively used by the United States and a number of other nations around the world in those same roles today, a century after its initial conception. Features winged blade front and adjustable folding ladder rear sights installed on the receiver, a "296/ordnance bomb" marked chrome-lined heavy profile barrel installed in a short ventilated heat shield, and hardwood charging handle and spade grips. The left side plate is marked with "BROWNING PATENTED" and FN Herstal nomenclature, with the right side plate is marked with the TNW Firearms address, model, caliber, and serial number. The top plate is marked with an Israeli "star of David" crest and characters. Includes a numbers matching hardwood takedown case, green "CAL 50 M3" marked folding tripod, three bags of disintegrating steel ammunition links, mounting pintle, a traverse and elevation devise, and "MACHINE LINKING-DELINKING CALIBER .50 M7." marked belt loading device.

Class: Modern Other Firearm

Exceptionally fine as manufactured by TNW Firearms, retaining 90% parkerized finish with scattered light edge wear, dried grease, limited minor spotting, and light handling marks. The tripod is very fine as repainted, with the elevation mechanism needing work. Case is fine. Mechanically excellent.

Also known as the M20 scout car, these are on the same basic chassis as the M8 Greyhound light armored car, of which 8,523 were made by Ford between 1943-1945, but differs in that it has an armored open-topped superstructure with an anti-aircraft ring mount for use with a .50 caliber M2 Browning Machine Gun (not included) as opposed to the M8 with a 37mm gun and rotating turret. The M20 was used as a command vehicle, an armored personnel and cargo carrier, and for forward reconnaissance where it served its purpose well due to its high speed and mobility. Besides the anti-aircraft mount for use with an M2 machine gun, the four man crew was typically supplied with a bazooka in case of enemy tanks. World War II U.S. Dodge WC-51 Weapons Carrier Truck

The vehicle was autographed on a sticker located on the passenger side fender in 2014 by Lieutenant Colonel Richard E. Cole, who as Jimmy Doolittle's co-pilot was the last survivor (at the time of signing the truck) of the Tokyo Bombing Raid, also known as The Doolittle Raid, of April 18, 1942.

The M151A2 was the last of the Jeeps to see U.S. military service and were replaced by the HMMWV. This M151A2 is interesting in that it has been modified with a 4 cylinder diesel engine, reinforced body and straight axles. Perhaps the restorer intended this Jeep to be a recreation of an AM General experimental M151A-LC or the restorer just used available parts.

Metal work and paint are very good. There are long cracks in the windshield. It runs and drives well.
