An excellent collaboration between veteran knifemaker Joe Kious and engraver Ron Skaggs. Joe Kious popularized the "pocket locket" style of high-end art folding knives. This knife is quite exquisite, as it features a 4" Damascus dagger style blade. Dead Bug model with button release and grip beautifully engraved on either side with gilded details. Spring is tight and the blade functions properly with excellent blade. Some areas of finish loss to the gold foil details with handling wear to the grip. Marked "SKAGGS" on the side. An eye catching piece. CONDITION: Very good. Accessories: Case Blade Length: 4" Overall Length: 8 - 7/8"

WILLIAM F. MORAN DAMASCUS HUNTER.

By 1973, when he reinvented Damascus steel, W.F. "Bill" Moran Jr. had already been handcrafting knives for 25 years. His ability to craft high end custom made knives earned him a reputation as one of the most well known modern bladesmiths of his time. "The Father of Modern Damascus" would go on to found the American Bladesmith Society and be inducted in to the Blade Magazine Hall of Fame in 1986 and the ABS Bladesmithing Hall of Fame in 1996. Offered here is one of his Damascus Hunters which is 1 of 50 Damascus knives produced by Bill Moran. This example features a 5 - 1/2" Damascus blade with splendid pattern marked "MORAN" and "DAMASCUS" on either side of the ricasso. Nickel silver guard and pommel with curly maple grip that features inlaid silvered wire. Light handling wear on the hilt, especially the fittings. Complete with Moran marked leather scabbard with tooled designs on front and half moon decoration. Scabbard exhibits light wear but remains pliable with tight stitching and intact belt loop. RARE LARGE BILL SCAGEL MADE BOWIE STYLE KNIFE WITH LEATHER SCABBARD.

A pleasing example of William "Bill" Scagel's craftsmanship in the form of this large bowie style knife that features a 8 - 1/4" blade with an overall length of 14". The blade features a swept spine with clip point and ricasso marked "W. SCAGEL / HANDMADE" in small lettering. A pleasing dark gray patina is exhibited throughout the blade's length with scattered freckling and evidence of older sharpening, as this knife was most likely used by an avid outdoorsman. Oval brass pommel is stamped "A.R. JOHNSTON.". Stacked leather washer grip with red and black spacers meet a large horn pommel with brass cap and exposed tang. The handle exhibits handling wear with chips in a few of the spacers. The knife is complete with its equally large scabbard that features nice leather engravings and decorative brass tacks on the front. 2 rows of stitching remain tight border the decorative tacks and remains tight. Massive leather belt loop remains intact with light creasing. Scabbard remains supple overall with scattered scuffs and scratches with patina to tacks. A great example of a Scagel knife. CONDITION: Good. Blade Length: 8 - 1/4" Overall Length: 14"

This Kangaroo Dagger has a 7 - 3/8" blade that features beautifully engraved foliate panels. The obverse panel is marked "HENDRICKS. / MESA. AZ." and the reverse panel is marked "COMPLETED & ENG. BY / SPINALE. R. LORAIN. OH. / 1999". Blade is excellent with only minor light blemishes. Joining the knife to its handle are beautifully engraved 14K gold bolsters that feature kangaroos surrounded by foliate scrolls. Mammoth grip scales remain tightly pinned in place with small gold decorations at center. Pommel is beautifully engraved kangaroo heads. Handle exhibits light wear with light blemishes. The blade retains its mirror polish sheen with scattered light blemishes. Nickeled oval crossguard exhibits light blemishes. Large coffin-shaped stag grip scales are intact and remain firmly affixed to the knife with 4 stainless pins on each side. A silver escutcheon is at the center of the reverse scale. Nice patina with scattered spotting. Attractive and rare green tenite finger grooved grip with flower shaped pins. The initials "PWR" are engraved on the grip. This example features a 3 - 3/4" blade and 8 - 1/8" overall length. The blade is marked with R.W. Loveless maker marks on the obverse side with reclined nude woman logo. Serial numbered "-408" on ricasso. Blade is bright with crisp markings. Stag grip scales with stainless pins and lanyard loop. Handle shows no major signs of distress. Complete with serial number matching "-408" leather scabbard that is marked on the throat with the Loveless signature stamp. Considered one of the best pioneers of custom knife making, Bill Cronk crafted knives for 20 years from 1963-1983. This knife is a wonderful W. W. "Bud" Cronk Vietnam War era fighter with a 6 - 3/4" clip point blade and an overall length of 11 - 1/2". The blade retains its original mirror polished sheen and is marked "W.W. / CORNK" on the ricasso. Naval brass sub hilt and pommel with a ringed rubber grip. Brass exhibits a pleasing patina throughout with handling wear to the grip as well as 1 small chip that is only noticeable up close. The knife is secured in a padded storage pouch, and does not have a scabbard. CONDITION: Very good. Accessories: Case Blade Length: 6 - 3/4" Overall Length: 11 - 1/2"

WILLIAM SCAGEL HUNTING KNIFE.

Lot # 1463 (Sale Order: 322 of 324)      

William Scagel, commonly considered to be the grandfather of modern, custom handmade knives, lived and worked and made his knives in Michigan primarily in the 1920s and 1930 producing very functional and durable hunting knives. During WWII, he made many fighting knives for troops going off to war. William Scagel's work became the inspiration for "Bo" Randall who emulated his knife designs. This versatile multi-use knife features a 5" skinner style blade with an overall length of 9 - 3/4". Left side of the blade has Mr. Scagel’s cartouche known as the "Kris" mark. A dark gray patina has overcome the blade. Brass hand guard with German silver spacers and stacked leather washers with brass pinned stag pommel that is slightly turned down. Handle exhibits wear but remains intact and tight. Accompanied by what is probably its original brown leather sheath with nickel button. The scabbard is well worn but remains pliable with intact belt loop and snap. This knife and scabbard were most likely well used by an avid outdoorsman. CONDITION: Good. Accessories: Case, Scabbard.
