Description

Broad Arrow Auctions is pleased to present an all-Porsche auction in partnership with Air|Water and Luftgekühlt at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California on April 27th. This auction will feature 40 pieces of automobilia all offered without reserve, with items spanning from the mid-1950s to the present day. Multiple bronze sculptures from the famed sculptor Larry Braun feature from the estate of Dr. William Jackson along with “917x12” an oversized limited edition art piece by Jeff Zwart. Multiple lots of colorful and historic Porsche factory racing and advertising posters in exceptional condition are available with additional consignments including factory accessory items and literature from the 356 and Spyder era, period 917 advertising articles, Porsche Seeger luggage, and rarely seen internal factory gifts. Furthermore, there are several late model Carrera GT items that are often missing from the super sportscar including luggage, literature, rare VIP delivery pieces, and accessories.

"A tribute to Richard von Frankenberg based on his miraculous escape from the plummeting ìMickey Mouseî RS Spyder during his spectacular accident at the 1956 Gran Prix of...more Berlin. As von Frankenberg piloted the RS Spyder around the AVUS track, a suspension part broke, sending the car up and over the steeply-banked curve and into a parking lot, where the car burst into flames. It was feared that von Frankenberg was trapped in the overturned car, burning to death, but instead, as the car sailed over the embankment, he had slipped out of the cockpit, landing safely in some shrubbery. Miraculously, he was unhurt and, to everyone's amazement and relief, walked down the embankment. Silver-plated bronze on black marble. 19.5x7x7 inches.
