GERMAN WWII 10X80 FLAK ARTILLERY BINOCULARS.

German World War II Anti-Aircraft Flak binoculars Doppellfernrohr (Double Telescope). These were used for direction sighting on the German Flak 36 guns. This example exhi...morebits Feldblau paint with scattered chips and oxidized areas. Maker marked with the 3 letter code "dkl" for Josef Schneider & Co., of Kreuznach on the binoculars with serial number "21338" and blue circle (lubricated for artic condition). Also marked with the 3 letter code "clk" for Breithaupt & Sohne, Kassel on the mount and level. Mount is serial numbered "125594", and level is marked "125568". Rubber eye pad is in place, DRGM marked, and remains supple but has cracked in some areas. Optics appear clear with scattered blemishes. Focus mechanisms move and mount crank functions. A nice example that is ready to be displayed on a tripod. CONDITION: Good.

THIRD REICH 29" RAILWAY EAGLE.

Lot # 3380 (Sale Order: 379 of 457)      

Third Reich Railway Eagle measuring approximately 29” in length, and 16” in height. The eagle is constructed of cast aluminum and marked "RZA 8 / BLN" and "GAL - Mg. Si." (alloy composition) on reverse. The obverse of the eagle is bright aluminum and appears to have had an older cleaning, evidenced by a light patina that has begun to form. All 3 threaded mounting studs are intact and do not appear to have been cut. There are 2 nuts on the upper studs with a strand of framing wire that was used to display the eagle. A hole was drilled through the center of the swastika which is sealed by a screw. A very nice example of a Third Reich Railway Eagle. CONDITION: Good....more

Lot consists of 2 World War II era German street signs: (A) measures approximately 35 - 1/2" x 6 - 1/4". Constructed of fairly heavy steel, with the wording “Gabelsbergerstrasse” in white DIN lettering, enclosed by a white border, on a cobalt blue background. The lettering and border are slightly raised from the background. The obverse does have some damage, which is typical of these signs. There are typical nicks and scratches, and some areas of enamel loss that are mostly limited to the edges. Only a couple of letters are slightly affected by these chips, and the sign remains readable. The exposed bare metal exhibits old patina. Exposed steel on the corners suggests this sign was used, mounted to a building or other object. CONDITION: Good. (B) Measures approximately 21 - 1/2" x 6" with same construction as (A). Light blemishes, mostly around the edges and on the reverse. Legible and reads "Stelling-Weg" CONDITION: Very good....more

Two piece stock with florals and a tiger on the right side. Lock of classic form with a touchmark at fore. CONDITION: Barrel with even chocolate patina, silver tarnished throughout but easily cleaned should the new owner wish. A GOOD KOTO TANTO BY KIYOYASU IN PINE NEEDLE LACQUER KOSHIRAE.

22.9cm nagasa, of classic hira zukuri form with iori mune, kuri nakagojiri, and signed in two characters "Yasukiyo". NBTHK Hozon papers to Naminohira Yasuyuki, and specif...moreies Muromachi period. The Naminohira smiths worked out of Satsuma, and their name can be read as "Tides are quiet" or "calm seas", which made them popular with seafarers. With bo-hi and soe-hi, and a fairly calm notare hamon with maru boshi. Blade is somewhat out of polish, but there are areas of what appear to be masame hada and chikei, hamon with visible sunagashi. Two piece habaki, with shakudo top and gold foil wrapped copper bottom with catscratch and relief decorations. Small tsuba of shakudo with relief gold flowers. Fuchi with relief gold paulownia crests on a nanako ground, kashira with waves. Menuki are in the form of pine trees, with gilt tops, a motif which is repeated on kozuka and kogai. Saya of a fine pine needle lacquer with florals throughout. Sayajiri with carved waves and what appears to be stylized suns. Kurikata with relief plum blossoms, kaerizuno with insects. CONDITION: Blade is out of polish with some spots of fine ware and mossing; an infintesimal chip is missing from kissaki. Mounts are very good with some normal handling marks and age, with some heavier rubs to nanako on fuchi. Saya with two cracks under kozuka slot, approximately 3", with some chipping and lifting at extremities. Blade Length: 22.9cm Overall Length: 15" Paperwork: NBTHK Hozon

Nie deki hamon with areas of repetitive activity (two small gunome bumps and a central choji of larger size, with some of the smaller gunome becoming tobiyaki) with well-executed tight nioiguchi. Loaded with hataraki including sunagashi and kinsuji. Two piece bass habaki. Kurijiri nakagojiri, slightly suriage, but notches have been raised for remounting. Ko-maru boshi. Iori mune. In a shirasaya. CONDITION: Very good, in polish, with some minor ware, most notable on omote side of boshi, but pinpricks. KOTO MINO KATANA BY KANETOMO WITH ELABORATE TACHI MOUNTS AND NBTHK TOKUBETSU HOZON PAPERS.

Measures 64.5cm nagasa. Signed katana mei "Kanetomo", verified by NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers. Given the features, Zenjo school. Hososuguha with ko-nie throughout and su...morenagashi, with a tight, bright nioiguchi. Mixed mitame and masame hada with chikei and ji nie, boshi is ko-maru. Nakago with 2 mekugi-ana and takanoha yasurime, somewhat softened, and clear katana mei. In shirasaya and silk cloth bag, with hang tag with further attribution of Kanetomoto to the Onin era smith, and attributing the sword to Yokuzuna Harumafuji, the 70th Yokuzuna from 2012 to 2017. Also with a set of ito-no-maki tachi mounts, which fit the blade. Saya is decorated in orange pine needle lacquer with gold lacquer Tokugawa aoi hollyhock mon, while the kabutogame, sarute, menukim, fuchi, tsuba, ashi-ai, semegane, and ishizuki are all done with gilt borders on a black nanako ground with further Tokugawa aoi mon; there are in excess of 100 mon represented across the mounts. CONDITION: Excellent, especially considering the age of the sword, with only a few very minor ware. In good, recent polish, which shows off the features of this sword well. Mounts are excellent, some fraying to brocade of the tsuka under the tsuka ito, and some other scattered minor marks. A fabulous, healthy Koto blade with a very flashy set of mounts, with NBTHK papers. Blade Length: 64.5cm Overall Length: 42" Paperwork: NBTHK papers, registration card

EXCELLENT HORIKAWA SCHOOL KATANA SIGNED DEWA DAIJO FUJIWARA KUNIMICHI, WITH NBTHK TOKUBETSU KICHO PA

72.4cm nagasa, with sugata of classic shinogi zukuri form with iori mune, torii zori, and a chu-kissaki. Ko-itame jihada, with ji-nie and chikei, and a few spots of mokum...moree burls and masame in the shinogi-ji. Hamon of gunome midare in ko-nie, with plenty of hataraki including kinsuji and sunagashi. Boshi is ko-maru with a long kaeri, and hakikake. Nakago with katanamei signed "Dewa no Daijo Fujiwara Kunimichi" with sujikai file marks. 2 mekugi-ana plugged with silver. Two piece gilt copper habaki. Adding to the value of this sword is the sayagaki written by Dr. Honma Junji, who signed with his typical Kunzan kao. Also accompanied by a Tobuketsu Kicho paper dated May 23rd, 1976. This sword was also published in Dr. Junji's book, Kanto Hibi Sho, vol. 2, on pages 98 and 99. Horikawa Kunihiro trained Kunimichi, and Kunimichi is regarded as Kunihiro's best student. Fujishiro rates him as Jojo Saku, one step under saijo saku, and his cutting ability as wazamono; Fujishiro devotes three pages in Shinto Hen to his signatures. CONDITION: Excellent, in polish, with only very minor handling marks. Activity is clear and crisp throughout. Sayagaki is clear, and shirasaya has only very minor marks. AN IMPORTANT SIGNED TENTA TANTO, WITH NBTHK TOKUBETSU KICHO PAPERS FOR BLADE AND TOKUBETSU KICHO PAP

This is an important tanto signed Tenta Saku, Miike school, and with a letter from Dr. Homma to Colonel Dean Hartley dating it to the Muromachi period. Dr. Junji Homma is...more notable as a foremost authority on Japanese swords, and Colonel Hartley was a collector as well, with notable accomplishments including past presidency of the JSSUS. Typical hirazukuri form with bohi horimono on both sides, itame mixed with masame hada. Suguha hamon with plentiful sunagashi and kinsuji. Iori mune. Ubu, signed "Tenta Saku". Shirasaya has Kanzan sayagaki attesting to the blade. 2 piece gold foil habaki. Mounted in a set of aikuchi tanto mounts, Muromachi, with a set of Goto Tokujo menuki, fifth mainline master, depicting grapes and shakudo. Kozuka with a bundle of florals (hemp?) and flowers in silver on a shakudo ground. Accompanied by Tokubetsu Kicho papers for both the blade and the menuki, copies of the catalog when this sold at Christies, scans of NBTHK journal 303, where this was shown and discussed, aforementioned letter to Dean Hartley from Dr. Homma, Hartley's submission to the 1976 Shinsa and associated paperwork. Notably, Hartley marked that he would not have paid for Juyo papers had the menuki warranted on the registration card. CONDITION: Very good, with some minor ware. Nakago with patina showing great age. Mounts excellent, roiro with some handling marks throughout, and repair visible at tsukaugchi and koiguchi. An important tanto, not only for the signature, but for its association with some of the modern nihonto greats. Blade Length: 24.5cm Overall Length: 17 - 1/8" Paperwork: Papers, letters, shirasaya

Accompanied by an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper and some additional paperwork from Tatsuhiko Konno attributing the blade to Kunimitsu. In shirasaya and with silver foil wrapped copper habaki. CONDITION: Good, in polish, particularly considering the age of the sword. 47cm nagasa, with a robust sugata, measuring 34.6mm at the mihaba and 8mm at the kasane. Shinogi zukuri, with a bo-hi, choji notare hamon, straightening at the boshi, whi...morech is ko-maru, nakago with kiri nakagojiri and katte agari yasurime. Jihada is ko-itame with chikei and ji nie, and there is conspicuous hataraki throughout the hamon, including sunagashi and nie; ura has a spot of tobiyaki at ura. Katanamei signed Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi, ura dated 9th year of Kanbun, and what looks to be 8th month, which would be August, 1669. NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho papers to shodai. Proportional silver foiled catscratch habaki, pierced iron tsuba, signed, with texture reminiscent of running water; one hitsu-ana plugged. Fuchi unsigned, with carving also reminiscentt of a creek, polished horn kashira, menuki with what appear to be aquatic motifs, with a deep aquamarine tsuka-ito. Roiro saya with an excellent kozuka depicting a shore scene, with a heron flying over waves, and trees accented with gold blossoms on a nanako ground, with a garden and rake; a small golden sail is seen in the distance. Kozuka with goma hashi, and deeply stamped on face, signed on rear. CONDITION: Excellent, in polish, with some very minor marks, mostly confined to the bohi, with features visible throughout. A WONDERFUL JAPANESE KATANA WITH THREE NTHK KANTEISHO PAPERS FOR SAYA, TSUBA, AND BLADE.

This is an excellent package with several pieces already papered by the NTHK-NPO. The blade is attributed to the third generation Hoki no Kami Nobutaka, a chujosaku rated...more smith working in the Enpo period. O-suriage mumei, with kiri yasurime. Jihada is itame, and hamon is a gunome-midare with a wide nioiguchi. Ko-maru boshi. Both sides with bo-hi horimono. The tsuba is signed ura Nakamura Haruhiro (kao), and omote Touto Jyu Myochin Ki Muneharu, Decorated with 5 plum blossoms, traditionally associated with the Maeda clan, of mixed metals on one side, and 3 on the other. One hitsu-ana plugged with gold. Late Edo koshirae is mumei, but the fuchi kashira are attributed to Yanagawa Naozumi, signed on the fuchi. Sayajiri appears to depict bundles of baleen mixed with mussels; NPO worksheet indicates that the faceted sections were accomplished by stripes of baleen. Fuchi and kashira with turtle motif, further adding to the aquatic theme. Kurikata with peony designs on a shakudo ground, menuki in the form of petals en suite with tsuba. CONDITION: Good, with a few small ware and some mossing that should be professionally addressed. In good polish with features visible throughout. Mounts are very good, saya appears to be relacquered, with clear definition and some minor marks. A wonderful package, with three sets of NTHK-NPO Kanteisho, and some additional research. A GOOD SUEKOTO KATANA SIGNED BISHU JU OSAFUNE KIYOMITSU, CIRCA 1534 (TENMON 3), WITH NTHK-NPO KANTEI

The Bizen Kiyomitsu group was a multigeneration group of smiths, and the date indicates it was Kiyomitsu Gorozaemonnojo; with NTHK-NPO papers confirming signature and dat...moree. Fujishiro rates the smith as Jojosaku, and this smith in particular as one of the better Kiyomitsu smiths. 73.2cm of shingi-zukuri form, with mokume hada of a fairly tight composition, mixed with itame. Utsuri is visible, but inconsistent and cloudy. Suguha hamon in nie deki, with a few gunome bumps, and a number of hataraki throughout, including nie saki and sunagashi. Fumbari is visible, indicating that the sword is ubu. Boshi is functionally ko maru on both sides, with a little bit more activity on omote. There is a strike on the mune approximately 9" back from tip that looks like a kirikomi. With a gold foil wrapped catscratch habaki, mokko gata tsuba of an almost chocolate texture, unsigned, with both hitsu-ana plugged. Saya with a textured finish and a painted dragon roaring towards the tsuba. Tsuka probably rewrapped. Menuki in the form of dragons. Fuchi depicting florals, kashira with a shishi dog. With NTHK-NPO Kanteisho and some additional research. CONDITION: Very good, in polish, with some minor ware; most noticeable some delamination about the hamachi. Mounts good, solid, with paint starting to lift, and a crack along ha. Dragon still clearly visible. Accompanied by a modern shirasaya and tsunagi. AN IMPORTANT KATANA BY SAGAMI MUNEKUNI WITH 15 FOLD GUARANTEE INSCRIPTION, TOKUBETSU KICHO PAPERS FO

Born Yamamoto Tougo, and his initial name was Hiroshige; he became Munekuni after working as a swordsmith for Tokugawa Mitsukuni in 1685, making blades in the field camp....more Munekuni and his brother learned the 15 fold technique from Omura Kaboku, who worked for the Echigo Matsudaira, and then Mitsukuni as a doctor. 69.8cm nagasa of a relatively slender sugata with a kissaki with a slightly stretched feeling, and iori mune. Jihada is flowing mokume with chikei and jinie throughout. Hamon is a rolling notare with sunagashi, ashi, and plentiful nie throughout. Signed katanamei "Sagami no Kami Fujiwara Munekuni" and ura "Shin jugo mai kan fushite tsukuru", indicating it was made with 15 folds. Kurijiri nakagojiri. One piece habaki made to look like a two piece. Satsuma koshirae comprise a red lacquered says with sayajiri depicting a dragon amongst clouds, while the tsuba, fuchi, and kashira are decorated with carved dragons in a different style; kashira further has shakudo waves with golden birds, and a pair of roundels, one with a rabbit and one with a bird in flight. Dragon menuki. With NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho papers dated September 8th, 1962, for the koshirae, and a set of NBTHK Hozon papers papers with the blade, dated Febuary 17th, 2005. CONDITION: Very good, blade is in polish with some kitae ware that follows masame grain, and a small area that looks to have been used to cut something and subsequently amatuerly polished at the habaki moto. Some small pockmarks approximately halfway down the blade. Koshirae is very good, saya relacquered, mounts with a rich chocolate brown patina. Sayajiri with thinning gold throughout. A COMPOSED DAISHO WITH NBTHK HOZON PAPERS TO SHIGETSUGU AND ECHIZEN SHIMOSAKA.

Literally "long and short" the daisho was the pair of swords worn by samurai, mandated in 1629 and restricted to samurai in 1683. Daisho are the quintessential samurai it...moreem. Daisho mounts with forest green lacquered saya, sayajiri, koiguchi, fuchi, kashira, and menuki are made of silver. Menuki are three petal mon, on katana they are overlaid on a lozenge. Tsuka-ito of leather. (A) The katana in shinogi zukuri form with chu kissaki, iori mune, and iriyamagata nakagojiri. Signed katanamei Shigetsugu, and NBTHK papers for Tenwa period Shigetsugu; Sesko's Index lists a 1st generation Shigetsugu circa Tenna, civilian name Nakazawa Hio-emon, who studied under 1st generation Kunimasu and worked for the Yamanouchi family, the daimyo of the Kochi fief. Sword with a largely suguha based hamon with some gunome bumps and an area closer to gunome on the omote, approximately 7" up from hamachi, and more active about the monouchi. Tobiyaki and sunagashi are visible, and the forging pattern is a masame, itame, mokume mix. Boshi is hakikake. Silver foiled habaki. (B) Tanto, ubu, mumei with NBTHK Hozon to Echizen Shimosaka. Hira zukuri configuration with irori mune and iriyamagata nakagojiri. Itame mixed with masame jihada, with abundant chikei, suguha hamon with sunagashi. Horimono with Bonji, bohi and soebi (shorter closer to the mune), goma hashi, and rendai. Boshi comes to a peak then has a long drop, similar to a mishina boshi. Two piece gilt habaki, bottom piece with catscratch. Tanto koshirae with a kozuka that has three petal mon over lozenge, duplicating the menuki on katana koshirae. CONDITION: Overall very good, with virtually all of the forest green lacquer remaining, with some handling marks and a few cracks and chips. Silver is very good, tarnishing, but easily cleaned if desired. Tssuka are good, leather distressed somewhat at edges. Blades are in good polish with some spots of ware. Katana tsuba with heavily craquelure to lacquer and some controlled deterioration under seppa. In matching koshirae bags. A good example of the classic Samurai armament.
