THE RINEHART/COOPER FAMILY
The Rineharts crossed the plains in 1854 and the Cooper side crossed in 1863.
Emily Belle Cooper was just a year old when they crossed the plains in a covered wagon in 1863. She attended St. Helens Hall, now Oregon Episcopal and later studied at the old Portland and Willamette Universities where she met Dr. Willard Rinehart whom she married in 1882. Dr. Willard Rinehart began practicing medicine at the age of 20 years old in Union Co., Portland, Oregon and later in The Dalles, Oregon where he was also the mayor. During his residence in Portland, he was professor of anatomy and clinical surgery in the Willamette Medical College and chief surgeon of Portland hospitals.
Dr. Willard Rinehart and Dr. Emily Belle Cooper Rinehart had four children, all boys. Two of which were identical twins, Jackson Carle and Harvey Earle, both followed in their parents footsteps by becoming doctors.
