Scarce U.S. Navy Remington Model 1867 Rolling Block Carbine

Lot # 26 (Sale Order: 26 of 752)

serial #4889, 50-45, 23 1/4'' round barrel with a mostly bright very good bore showing some scattered light pitting and oxidation with strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces have mostly toned to a mix of dark gray-brown and plum-brown patina showing scattered light dings, remnants of old minor oxidation staining and a small area of moderate pitting at the muzzle. All proper markings remain intact and mostly strong showing Remingtons Ilion address and patent dates along the upper tang, serial number on the left side barrel shank, anchor stamp atop the barrel and ''P / F.C.W / (Anchor)'' on the right side frame. The concave breechblock is also of the correct style with the extractor stud mounted at the 6 o'clock position. The smooth walnut stocks remain in very good condition as lightly cleaned long ago showing a thin sliver missing and small crack at the right tip of forend, a few small thin cracks near the tangs and the expected scattered light dings. The buttstock retains a softened but evident ''FCW'' inspector cartouche on the right side wrist. The tangs show factory assembly number ''36145'', all correct hardware is intact and the action seems to function well mechanically. A very good example of these desirable and low-production carbines for the advanced Remington or U.S. martial collector. (13C9670-366) {ANTIQUE} [David & Lore Squier Collection] (1000/1500)

Remington New York State Rolling Block Carbine

Lot # 27 (Sale Order: 27 of 752)

50-70, 22'' round barrel with a bright very good plus bore showing some scattered light oxidation staining and crisp rifling throughout. The barrel of this carbine retains perhaps 50% original blue with the balance toning to a mild gray-brown patina and showing some scattered light dings. The action is toning to a silvery gunmetal patina showing some scattered light pitting and some remnants of old oxidation staining. The buttplate screws show moderate slot wear and the tang shows legible Remingtons Ilion address and patent dates. The smooth walnut buttstock and forend remain in very good condition retaining a strong oil finish with the expected scattered dings and dents from military service. The right side wrist shows a crisp ''A / TS'' stamp along with ''41'' at the heel and a strong inspector cartouche on the left. The barrel band spring is broken and all proper hardware otherwise remains intact. The carbine is sighted with the scarce A. T. Decker patent rear sight (missing its elevator) and standard blade front. New York State updated a number of carbines with this sight around 1878 and it is believed they were mostly intended for artillery and signal units. The action seems to function well mechanically. A respectable New York State carbine with seldom-seen rear sight. (13A9670-374) {ANTIQUE} [David & Lore Squier Collection] (1000/1500)

Remington No. 1 Rolling Block Sporting Rifle

Lot # 28 (Sale Order: 28 of 752)

serial #4810, 44 CF, 26'' octagon barrel with a mostly bright very good plus bore showing some scattered small areas of light pitting and oxidation with strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces have mostly toned to plum-brown patina showing some sparsely scattered pinprick pitting and old oxidation staining. The action shows remnants of silvery case-hardened patina with a few wisps of colors along the left side while the hammer and breechblock likewise retain some good original bright blue. The underside of the barrel is marked only ''44'' and the address has been mostly lost to the installation of a period leaf sight, rifles stamped only ''44'' are generally rimfires, the chamber indicates this is a rather short straight-walled case. The smooth walnut buttstock and forend with steel schnabel remain in very good plus condition showing remnants of oil finish with a couple tiny drying cracks along the buttstock and some overall dings, otherwise retaining excellent fit. The rifle is equipped with older period added sling swivels along with the aforementioned leaf sight, the original sporting rear sight is also present minus its elevation slider and the front is a Beach-style combination. The action seems to function well mechanically. (13A9670-202) {ANTIQUE} [David & Lore Squier Collection] (1000/1500)

Handsome Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine with Henry Marking

Lot # 30 (Sale Order: 30 of 752)

serial #21808, 44 RF, 20'' barrel with a very good plus to near fine bore which shows sharp rifling and some bright areas but with scattered light pitting, one or two spots which may be a bit more moderate about midway down the length. This is a handsome Second Model saddle ring carbine with the Henry patent marking still retained in the barrel marking. The barrel and magazine tube are a pleasing deep gray-blue showing some scattered oxidation staining, the barrel with remnants of the lightest pinprick pitting, likely very light surface oxidation from many years ago, those areas toning to a warm plum under bright light, appearing much darker in normal ambient light. The front band shows some generous original blue with the high points toning to plum or pewter, the rear band a tarnished pewter patina. The frame and side plates show mostly crisp edges, softening somewhat from the years, and are a deep goldenrod patina showing the expected very light handling marks or scratches that come from the years and use afield. A number of the screws still show some nice blue with some strong fire blue on the loading gate. Close inspection does reveal that the left side sideplate is an older antique Winchester-made replacement as its fit is just a tad bit off being a tiny bit too thick, and perhaps just a shade lighter than the patina on the balance of the brass; it is actually missed at first glance the fit is so close. The left interior shows the rare casting marks of the cast sideplate, used shortly after the 20,000 serial number range, the right however is made from a solid billet and not cast. The hammer shows some lovely strong case colors left and right with a bit of muting along the spine, the lever being similar with strong colors at its root and toning to a pewter case-hardened and light plum patina over the balance of its length, the trigger as well with some strong trace colors. The American walnut buttstock rates very good with much original varnish and the expected overall light dings and handling marks that come from the years, it is numbered ''808'' in the upper tang recess. The crescent buttplate retains nice edges and is a dull ocher patina, it is properly numbered ''808'' on its underside. The forend shows perhaps a bit more wear but is honest and unmolested rating about very good. The original saddle ring is in place on its stud, the rear sight is intact, the number ''282'' has been lightly stamped at the rear of the frame on the right frame flat (obviously an antique inventory number of some sort) and the action seems to function very well mechanically. A very respectable and very handsome second model saddle ring carbine with a very pleasing overall look, the barrel and gate with nice blue and some lovely colors on the hammer. U.S. Model 1863 Zouave Percussion Rifle by Remington

Lot # 43 (Sale Order: 43 of 752)

.58 cal., 33'' barrel with a partially-bright very good bore showing some old light oxidation and light pitting in the otherwise strong rifling. The barrel retains perhaps 60% of what appears to be original blue which is concentrated between the barrel bands and has thinned to a streaky blend of blue and gray patinas while the remainder is a blend of dark gray and brown patinas with light-moderate pitting around the breech and bolster and pinprick pitting at the muzzle with a spot of loss toning to gray on the left side of the barrel with some scattered streaks and spots of gray overall. The lockplate has also aged to brown and the brass mountings for which this rifle is famous are a warm mustard patina with some scattered small areas of verdigris and the expected spots of light tarnish. The left side of the breech is clearly marked ''STEEL G.P.'' while the other markings on the breech are lost to light pitting. Interestingly, the 1863-dated lockplate is marked with a softened Federal Eagle over ''REMINGTON'S / ILION, N.Y.'' rather than over the typical ''U.S.'' which is stamped further forward on the plate. The American black walnut stock rates very fine retaining crisp edges on the stock flats and having some overall light handling marks and there are two crisp inspectors' cartouches on the left stock flat. The sights, swivels and bayonet lug are intact, a correct cupped tulip-head ramrod with threaded end is stored below the barrel and the action remains strong and crisp. Also included is an unmarked contemporary 33 3/4'' .58 cal. barrel with a bright excellent bore showing a few spots of light oxidation near the muzzle and equipped with a blade front sight and 1863 Type II style rear sight. Finally, there is an Indian reproduction of a U.S. Model 1863 Zouave sword bayonet with 19 3/4'' blade showing some scattered speckles of light oxidation staining and light handling marks on the brass handle along with a black leather scabbard with brass throat and tip which will require some extra fitting to the rifle. A very fine example of these desirable Civil War rifles. (23B10129-31) {ANTIQUE} (1200/1800)

Colt Government Model Semi-Auto Pistol

Lot # 45 (Sale Order: 45 of 752)

serial #C99268, 45 ACP, 5'' barrel with an excellent bore. This lovely Government Model rolled off the production line toward the end of the Great War (1918) and remains in fantastic condition. The metal surfaces retain about 96% original blue, the loss due to light wear at the front of the slide with a few very sparsely scattered oxidation freckles. The double diamond checkered walnut factory grips rate excellent. This pistol has the correct style parts and markings for the period of manufacture including the early slide stop with plunger groove cut into the end. A portion of the ''Government Model'' marking on the frame is lightly struck, but the blue is clearly all factory, the last digit of the serial number appearing to be a factory correction, as there is a small ghost of an earlier number beneath; it matches the balance of the serial number in font and strike precisely however. The pistol includes a factory two-tone magazine with pinned flat floorplate. A wonderful example of a commercial Government Model pistol. (8A10155-5) {C&R} (2000/3000)
