Excellent and Scarce High Standard First Model Olympic Semi-Auto Pistol

Lot # 4 (Sale Order: 4 of 673)

Description Update 05/30/2024: Barrel and perhaps the frame show an old factory-quality refinished blue
serial #326112, 22 Short, 4 1/2” heavy barrel with an excellent bore. This early Model G-O Olympic appears to be virtually as new. The pistol retains about 99% original blue and anodized finishes showing a few minor handling marks. The checkered walnut factory thumb rest grips rate excellent. This gun features a Patridge style front sight, Davis adjustable rear sight, and lever takedown button. The barrel and slide are correctly numbered to the gun. The pistol includes a very early and rare curved ten-round magazine with straight back stamped with the number “26” on the body and the side of the floorplate’s lip. This magazine shows light to moderate wear to the blue and is likely a replacement as they were routinely numbered to the gun. A rare opportunity to own a very desirable pistol in superb condition. Fine Japanese Type B Baby Nambu Pistol by Tokyo Arsenal with Holster

Lot # 5 (Sale Order: 5 of 673)

serial #1289, 7mm Nambu, 3 1/4” barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this pistol retain about 92% original blue showing some subtle thinning and sparse oxidation speckling along the sides, most of the loss along the gripstraps toning to a smooth medium gray-brown patina, the backstrap with a couple tiny pinprick pits. The bolt remains bright and the remaining small parts retain fine straw color with the trigger fading in areas. All markings remain crisp and clear and the checkered walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in near excellent condition showing some mild wear. Field-stripping shows all visibly numbered parts are matching and the included original magazine remains in excellent condition and is also matching the pistol. The included holster is an original Japanese soft flap leather holster but is a different pattern than the typical Baby Nambu holster and was probably intended for a Colt or FN pistol, indeed the magazine does not quite fit in the horizontal pouch beneath the lid. In any event it is a desirable period piece and remains in about very fine condition showing some light crackling and scuffing overall. This is a very fine and always desirable rig for the martial collector. (13C11556-20) {C&R} (3500/5000)

British Brass-Barreled Flintlock Blunderbuss by Daykin

Lot # 10 (Sale Order: 10 of 673)

About .84 cal flaring to 1 1/4” at the muzzle, 15 1/2” part round part octagon cannon-belled barrel with a good bore showing old verdigris throughout. This is an attractive and honest blunderbuss, the barrel showing some evidence of a very old light cleaning with the edges around the point of transition softened somewhat, some scattered pinprick pits and toning a palish ocher. The arm is in the original flint, the breech area showing honest firing and the barrel markings are mostly intact showing period British proof marks and “DAYKIN NOTTINGHAM” maker markings. The remaining brass hardware is a similar patina as the barrel consisting of a slightly cracked ramrod thimble, tailpipe, long tang triggerguard with foliate extension, smooth buttplate, un-engraved monogram plate atop the wrist and a solid flat sideplate. The lockplate has been cleaned to pewter gunmetal with some dark brown undertones with remnants of moderate pitting overall. The “DAYKIN” mark is otherwise legible and the lock is equipped with rather simple hardware including an unbridled frizzen. The smooth walnut stock remains in very fine condition with a really nice appearance overall showing a few thin drying cracks at the toe, some light dings and handling marks. A brass-tipped hickory ramrod is present and the lock is quite crisp and seems to function well mechanically. A fine original example of the classic brass-barreled blunderbuss. (13C11566-1) {ANTIQUE} (1800/2200)

Pair of British Brass-Barreled Flintlock Holster Pistols by Ketland & Adams

Lot # 11 (Sale Order: 11 of 673)

.60 cal, 9” barrels with about good bores showing moderate verdigris. These pistols have been reconverted to flint, the cocks, pans, frizzens and frizzen springs being more modern aged replacements showing a deep plum-brown finish. The lockplates are original, some of their markings lost or worn due to the fitting of the later parts and a couple of their letters refreshed. The barrels are a pleasant medium goldenrod patina showing some light tarnishing, a few scattered small dings, and some tiny punch-marks emulating “pitting” around the touch holes. The barrels otherwise retain nice markings with their original Birmingham proofs and “LONDON” surrounded by a flourish. The lockplates and other iron hardware are a deep gray and plum-brown patina and the remaining hardware is of brass consisting of ramrod thimbles with tailpipes, triggerguard with vague foliate extensions and starbursts on guards, flat s-shaped sideplates and small monogram plates atop the wrists engraved with initials that appear to be “RJK”. The fittings are a mild ocher patina showing some small dings and one tailpipe with some more moderate denting. The walnut stocks remain in very good plus condition showing a few thin cracks and small repaired chips along some of the edges of both stocks, scattered dings and other handling marks. The stocks otherwise retain nice fit and an honest appearance. A pair of horn-tipped hickory ramrods is included and the locks seem to function normally. A very good pair of pistols from this classic British maker. (13B11451-4,5) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500)

Interesting British Pattern 1796 Heavy Dragoon Flintlock Pistol with 6th Dragoons Unit Marking

Lot # 12 (Sale Order: 12 of 673)

.76 cal, 8” round barrel with a good bore showing some scattered old mild oxidation. This is an interesting pistol, constructed using original flint Pattern 1796 flintlock pistol parts around a later more commercial-looking checkered walnut stock. The barrel was apparently shortened about an inch and has mostly toned to a deep plum-brown patina showing some scattered light pitting. The barrel markings remain otherwise intact and strong showing two ordnance proofs “(Crown) / GR / (Broad Arrow)” and “(Crown) / (Crossed Scepters)” along with a small crown stamp near the tang and a “(Crown) / 4” above the touch hole. The lockplate is a similar patina as the barrel with a few areas of lighter gunmetal and likewise retains nice markings with prominent Royal Cypher in the center, “TOWER” at the rear and “(Crown) / (Broad Arrow)” below the pan. The original brass sideplate and triggerguard were utilized, the tang of the triggerguard bent and recontoured slightly for the newer stock shape. The brass shows evidence of an old cleaning now toned to a pale ocher and there is an additional flat brass buttcap. The bow of the triggerguard bears what appear to be original unit markings “6 D / D39”, no doubt indicating the 6th Dragoons. This unit was mostly stationed in Ireland around the time this pattern of pistol would have been used, from here sending a 400-strong detachment to South Africa in 1806. The replacement checkered walnut stock is obviously of American construction but nicely done and appears fairly old itself showing some scattered light dings, a few lightly chipped points and small repaired flake ahead of the lockplate. The included iron ramrod appears to be original hardware as well, shortened to 7 1/2”, and retaining a British proof and what appears to be “62 / D” marking. The cock is a little loose and the lock otherwise seems to function normally. An interesting piece for the antique arms collector. (13B11451-3) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500)

Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Pocket Army Double Action Revolver

Lot # 13 (Sale Order: 13 of 673)

44-40, 5 1/8” barrel shortened during the period of use, with a mostly bright very fine bore showing a few small areas of mild oxidation and a couple minor pits with otherwise crisp rifling. This revolver has seen honest use, retaining about 70-75% original nickel finish with scattered flaking to gray-brown patina, light dings and handling marks. Most of the loss is along the gripstraps and left side frame, the butt showing moderate dings and tool marks with no visible serial number present, it seems likely the frame did have the “skull crusher” grip and this was removed for some reason long ago. The original folding hammer spur was also lost to the years and a mostly rigid oversized gunsmith replacement added in its stead. The principal markings remain mostly intact and strong, a few letters of the barrel markings obscured by the rather large added front sight blade. The checkered hard rubber grips remain in about good condition with overall dings and the right panel with more wear showing an old chip at the toe. The grips show some scratched scribblings along their interiors, the numbers appear to be mismatched, and the inside grip frame shows an assembly number “77” while the barrel and cylinder are numbered “8387”. Barrel-to-frame fit is quite good and the action will otherwise require mechanical attention as it does not cycle, the hand is worn and the hammer does not hold reliably. This old Merwin Hulbert has a lot of character. (13B11407-25) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500)

This old Merwin Hulbert has a lot of character. (13B11407-25) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500)

Merwin, Hulbert & Co. First Model Large Frame Single Action Revolver

Lot # 14 (Sale Order: 14 of 673)

serial #5767, 44 M&H, 7” barrel with a partially bright very good bore showing some scattered areas of old mild oxidation and pinprick pitting with otherwise strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this early variant retain some generous streaks of original bright blue along the left side of the frame, more protected areas and scooped flutes of the cylinder. The balance of the frame and cylinder is a deep plum-brown showing some old oxidation while the barrel is more of a medium gray-brown showing some light dings and old oxidation. The hammer and triggerguard show some smoky hints of case-hardening mixing with plum-brown, the edges of the trigger with a few flakes of bright fire blue. The markings remain intact and mostly strong. The revolver wears a set of period antique ivory grips that show honest crackling and rich patina overall, with noticeable shrinkage and a 1 1/2” synthetic repair at the right heel. The serialized parts are matching by assembly number “3334”, barrel-to-frame fit is solid and the tip of the firing pin is broken though the action otherwise seems to function well mechanically.
