Item Details
"A tribute to Richard von Frankenberg based on his miraculous escape from the plummeting ìMickey Mouseî RS Spyder during his spectacular accident at the 1956 Gran Prix of Berlin. As von Frankenberg piloted the RS Spyder around the AVUS track, a suspension part broke, sending the car up and over the steeply-banked curve and into a parking lot, where the car burst into flames. It was feared that von Frankenberg was trapped in the overturned car, burning to death, but instead, as the car sailed over the embankment, he had slipped out of the cockpit, landing safely in some shrubbery. Miraculously, he was unhurt and, to everyone's amazement and relief, walked down the embankment.
Silver-plated bronze on black marble. 19.5x7x7 inches. Offered from the estate of early Porsche collector Dr. William Jackson."
