Post-Civil War Peabody Breechloading Cavalry Carbine, NVSN, .50 RF cal., 20" round barrel has block-blade front and folding-leaf rear sights. Receiver marked "Peabody's Pat./July 22, 1862/Man'f'd. by/Providence Tool Co./Prov., R.I." at left has serpentine lever that lowers breechblock for loading/extraction, sling ring and stud at left, back-action lock and side hammer. Oil-stained walnut forend has single band, matching straight buttstock a "W.C." inspector's cartouche at left wrist and carbine buttplate. Numerous tiny inspection initials throughout. Mfg'd 1866-71. Condition is excellent retaining 95% military blue, with vivid case colors, sharp edges and markings. Stocks are sound and smooth with sharp inspector's cartouche. Action is smooth, bore brilliant with strong rifling. Est.: $3,500-$4,500. (Antique)
