NAVY ARMS: Founded in 1957 by the legendary Val Forgett, Jr., the Navy Arms brand and legacy have endured for over 65 years by providing quality products to our customers that retain both monetary and historic value. Navy Arms was the first company to produce replicas of classic firearms made by Colt, Winchester and Smith & Wesson and was a pioneer in the importation and sale of original surplus arms of the 20th Century. For decades, Navy Arms has been the main supplier of weapons for the production of major motion pictures, television shows and Broadway theatrical productions. SPECS: Case colored receiver frame/ hammer & loading gate, silver straps & trigger guard, polished blued barrel & cylinder finish, 7.5" barrel with silver blade front sight, smooth walnut grips and 6-shot cylinder with roll marked Naval engagement scene. CONDITION: This revolver is in nice condition with light wear on the straps, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Colt 1871-1872 Open Top was the forerunner of the famous and ever popular 1873 Colt "Model P" or Peacemaker. Open Top revolvers were manufactured during the same period of the time that gave us the percussion conversion models Richards and Richards-Mason types, but Open Tops were manufactured as an entirely new model and did not use percussion revolver parts. Original 1872 Open Top revolvers were produced in rim fire only due to the ready availability of 44 rim fire ammunition used in in Henry and Winchester rifles throughout the American West. Also, the Open Top was engineered to eliminate some of the weaknesses inherent to the Richards and Richards-Mason conversion steels available, and as a result, much stronger than the original.
