Item Description: Translate description
Early German Model 1933 SS Dagger and Scabbard, 9" blade,13.8" overall length. Blade is double sided and unknown maker marked "(SS inside double circle)/120/34/(RZM inside double circle)", with the blade orientation pointed down. Blade is also acid etched with the SS motto "Meine Ehre heibt Treue" (My honor is loyalty). The pommel nut and crossguards are made of "Neusilber" which is a combination of nickel and other additive metals. Pommel nut is round, and both crossguards are decorated with two sets of parallel lines cast into the top and bottom of each side. The lower crossguard is marked with the Roman numeral "I" indicating the knife was made for the Munich distribution center. Wooden grip is dyed black and a circular enamel covered metal button featuring the SS runes has been hand fitted below the crossguard. The nickel/neusilber eagle emblem clutching a wreathed swastika has also been hand fitted just below the center of the grip. Condition is good, the blade edge has tiny nicks along the top edge. Old traces of cleaned patina are visible along both sides with a concentration around the tip. Micro scratches from cleaning are also visible on both sides. Crossguards are good showing handling marks, patina and toning. Pommel nut is very good. Grip has three initials into the reverse side, and there is a recent glue repair to the lower left side. Condition is otherwise good with impressions, dents, and handling marks to each side. There are chips along the top edge and a chipped area to the bottom where the grip is twisted at the lower crossguard. The rune button is chipped at the center and the eagle shows wear to the legs. Scabbard is made with a steel body that was anodized and protected with a lacquer finish and fitted with a neusilber upper locket with ring and a lower chape with ball finial, both attached with four dome headed screws. Condition is good, the body showing scratches and patina, with a large dent on one side. The locket and chape are good with handling marks and patina. The black leather hanger is maker marked with a "oLc" symbol on the rear of the clip. Condition is good, with a filing mark to the clip and wear and cracking to the leather. Est.: $2,000-$2,500.
