Model 1842 U.S. Springfield Percussion Musket, NVSN .69 cal., 42" round barrel, mixture of bright and brown finish to iron metal parts, smooth wood stock is full length and displays old varnished finish. Markings include "SPRING/FIELD/1847" on the back of the lockplate with a Spread American Eagle over "U.S." on the front side of the lockplate. "1845" is stamped on the upper rear barrel tang; there is a "U.S." on the top of the buttplate; a "V/P" over an Eagle Head on the left side of the barrel at the breech, and an "L" on the left sideplate securing base with a "C" on the rear securing screw. There are three "A"s and "3 4" stamped on the left side of the buttstock. Mfg'd ca. 1847. The overall condition of this U.S. Musket is good, showing an uncleaned gray patina mixed with areas of brown in about a 50%-to-50% coverage. The smooth varnished wood stock is overall fair+ to good displaying scattered mars, dings and scratches from carry, handling and storage with considerable older varnish finish remaining. Action is crisp and strong, bore is dark, and the markings on this rifle are sharp. Est.: $750-$1,000. (Antique)
