SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 32503. Bbl. 23 1/2" w/ import marking. Blade front sight w/ reproduction protective hood. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Russian captured rifle post service assembled to resemble a long side rail sniper rifle. Scope is a reproduction ZF39 style & is only marked "Nr 28824". Scope has a post reticle & very good optics. Scope also has modern black rubber lens covers. Side rail mount appears to be reproduction & has eagle "359" style Waffenamts. Inside of scope mount has matching electro pencil number. Receiver top is marked "byf 43" denoting mfg. by Mauser Oberndorf in 1943 & w/ a Russian capture "X". Matching electro pencil numbers on bolt, trigger guard & floorplate. Other parts have mixed numbers. Bolt has "key" safety correct for long side rail sniper rifles. Winter trigger device present. Laminated stock set w/ checkered cupped buttplate. Left side sling provisions w/ repro leather sling. Stock has slip on rubber recoil pad, leather cheekpiece w/ compartment & repro German sniper patch. Cleaning rod also present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: matching cardboard shipping box. CONDITION: cleaned stock set shows some chipping near buttplate w/ some laminate cracks, a tape remnant area on left side below bolt release, a few abrasions, scattered dings & handling wear. Metal retain 60% Soviet arsenal rework blue w/ scattered fading, light oxidation & edge wear. Good bore w/ some light pitting & frosting but strong rifling. PROVENANCE: from the Working Reference Collection of Military Arms Instructor, Master Sergeant Vincent Pestilli. (23-7579/MJC). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
